1. The first responder will find the identification number of your bracelet which is located on the metal plate.

2. He will call the 1-800 toll-free emergency line printed on the bracelet.

3. He will then provide the 2BEID employee the identification number of your bracelet.  The 2BEID employee will provide the relevant medical information to the first responder, but not your emergency contacts.   2BEID will contact your emergency contacts to advise them and give them the information about the incident.

Learn how to properly scan the QR code.

While this maneuver is not necessary, many of you will want to test and scan your bracelet’s QR code. To do this, it is important to know the proper procedures. For this reason, we will explain the procedures to follow.

screen1

To do so, you must have a QR code reader as a mobile application installed on your smartphone. There are several available, but unfortunately they are not all that great. In the examples below, we used the ScanLife application.

To start, open the ScanLife application or any other QR code reader.

screen2

When you have opened the application, you must press on the SCAN button or SCANNER (if in French).  The eye of the camera on your smartphone will open and you will be ready to scan the QR code.

You must take your bracelet and guide the QR code in the center of the viewfinder of the application and be at a distance of about 2 inches(between your bracelet and the phone) and then stand still.

screen3

The plate was designed to be sensitive to the reflection of the light so that it will make it harder for anyone to scan the QR code without your knowledge.

screen4

You have to turn your wrist slightly at an angle where there will be less reflections.

When the reflections decrease, the QR code will become darker, and at that time, it will be easy for you to scan the QR code.

#qr code

The QR code is the trademark for a type of matrix barcode (or two-dimensional barcode) which consists of black modules (square dots) arranged in a square grid on a white background. The arrangement of these points defines the information contained in the code.

QR (short for Quick Response) means that the content of the code can be decoded quickly after being read by a barcode scanner, a mobile phone or a smart phone. Its advantage is that it can contain more information than a traditional bar code, and especially data directly recognized by applications, making it easy to trigger actions.

The QR code system was invented in 1994 by Denso Wave. Its purpose was to track vehicles during manufacture; it was designed to allow high-speed component scanning.

It is released in 1999: Denso-Wave publishes the QR Code under the license libre2; this has contributed to the dissemination of the code in Japan. Thereafter, it takes a real boom with the advent of smart phones. In the late 2000s, it became one of the most popular two-dimensional codes in the world, and applications that can read QR codes are often already installed by manufacturers in mobile phones. In Japan, the practice was already widespread in 2003.

In June 2014, the European Patent Office in Berlin celebrated the European inventors of the year. Nominees in the non-European countries’ category, the Japonese scholar Masahiro Hara and his team, inventors of the QR code have been awarded the public’s prize.

The advantage of the QR code is its ease and speed of use and creation. To read a QR code, just run the QR code reading application and aim the camera of the smartphone towards the QR code.

You can see below some examples of where the QR code is used and its use statistics.
